Carrillon

/

about

“Carrillon” is the 3rd single extracted from the upcoming double LP Rada: Tropical Cosmic Sounds From Space. El Palmas Music’s second release brings back the innovative work of Angel Rada, pioneer of experimental -yet tropical- electronic music in Venezuela. This piece belongs to Upadesa (blessing in Sanskrit language) his first album, where Rada establishes the foundations of a long and productive career. Upadesa is an evidence of his early influences such as: Stockhausen, Klaus Schulze, Robert Shroeder, but also is an astonishing starting point to a different and personal path. From the very beginning Rada tried to evolve his own interpretation of the work of those electronic music pioneers from the most repetitive and sequential to a more dynamic and melodic variation.

“Carrillon” transparently represents Rada’s decision to bring experimentation to the music produced in Venezuela, building totally new, sometimes amorphous, avant-garde envelopes, whose effect, indirectly, works like narcotic modulations. Criticized and poorly understood at the time in his home counrty, Upadesa would lately become a cult album, an important piece of history, having been one of the first fully experimental electronic records produced in his country, also published by an independent label whose owner was the artist himself (something that guarantees total creative freedom aside the commercial record industry and radio corrupted promotional methods).

With dazzling themes such as “Carrillon”, Rada became a unique artist, conquering avant-garde and experimental music territories, and influencing young artists to follow the path of electro-acoustic experimentations. The landmarks achieved with Upadesa are valid until today.
